FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

1.   What types of classes are there and when are they?

Puppy Preschool classes are held on Monday nights, and start at 6 p.m.  Please call for the start date of the next available classes.

Beginning Obedience classes are either on Tuesday nights at 6:30 p.m. or 7:30 p.m. or  on Wednesday evenings at 7 p.m.  Again, please call for start dates.

"Post Graduate" classes ar also available, should you decide to continue training with your dog after Beginning class, be it for Obedience show trials or just to hang out with your dog.

Intermediate classes are on Monday nights, at 7 p.m. or 8 p.m. This class is an excellent way to continue socializing your dog with people and other canines.  Our dogs love their  training nights!

Advanced classes are for the dedicated Obedience trainer and are held on Thursday nights.  Utility class meets at 5 p.m.; Open class meets at 6:30 p.m.

2.  How long do the beginning courses last?

Beginning Obedience course has 9 sessions, once a week for about an hour per session.
Puppy Preschool has 4 sessions, once a week for around 30 minutes per session.
Intermediate classes last an hour.  Advanced classes last an hour and a half.

3.  What do the courses cost?

The Beginning Obedience course is $100.  Puppy Preschool is $45. Intermediate and Advanced classes are $25 per month for one session per week (say either  one Monday session or one Thursday session), or $37.50 per month for two nights per week.

A family discount is also offered to those households with multiple dog/trainer teams continuing
training in the Intermediate and Advanced classes.  Please inquire for details.

4.  What will my dog learn?

Our Begining Obedience class consists of commands used in normal everyday life, such  as Walking on a loose leash (without pulling!), Sit, and Down (as in lying down); Stay, Come  when called, and more.  If you've ever wished that your dog would just stay still while you carried in the groceries, or hoped it wouldn't break down the door trying to get inside the house, then this class is for you!

Intermediate sessions refine and strengthen the commands learned in Beginning, while the
Advanced classes further build upon those foundations for the higher levels of Obedience  trial  competition.

But more than teaching these basic commands, all of the classes concentrate on teaching YOU, the owner, behaviorally sound methods of training your pet.

5.  How old does my dog have to be?

If you have a new puppy, the best thing you can do is take the Puppy Preschool class; there you learn how to manage his or her environment, proper discipline, and how to prevent behavior problems from ever starting.  This class is for pupies 15 weeks to 4 months old.

At 5 months old, your dog is old enough to enter the Beginning Obedience class.  Past that, a dog is never too old to learn, so there is no upper age limit.

6.  What do I need to bring to class?

Bring your dog's shot records, and a 6 foot leash.  It's a good idea to wait until after the first class to buy equipment rather than going out and buying the wrong thing.

7.  Does the same person have to bring the dog to class every week?

We encourage everyone in the family to learn how to give and enforce commands.  Family members may, and SHOULD, come to class and watch.  If you can't come one week, someone else may bring the dog.  But whoever brings the dog must live with the dog, work with the dog at home, and be familiar with class procedure.  Do not send the dog with someone who has never been to the class.

8.  What about class size?

Group classes are limited to 10 students.  There will also be an Assistant Instructor to help with all
Beginning Obedience
Classes; this insures that you will get the individual attention that you and your dog both deserve.

9.  Does my dog have to be AKC registered (a purebred)?

Absolutely not!  We love dogs of all sizes, shapes and, types.
